Last week, our adventurous Cubs and Air Scouts had the incredible opportunity to visit the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance base at Earls Colne — a evening filled with excitement, learning, and inspiration.
From the moment we arrived, the team at the air ambulance welcomed us with open arms. The young people were thrilled to get up close to the helicopter, marveling at its size and the technology packed inside. For many, it was their first time seeing an air ambulance in person, and the experience sparked plenty of wide-eyed wonder and curious questions.

The crew gave a fascinating talk about their life-saving work, explaining how they respond to emergencies across the region and the vital role they play in supporting the NHS. The Cubs and Scouts learned about the importance of teamwork, quick decision-making, and the advanced medical equipment used onboard — all of which tied in perfectly with their interest in aviation and emergency services.
One of the highlights was watching the helicopter land after a real mission. The roar of the rotors and the sight of the aircraft coming into land was unforgettable, and it gave the group a real sense of dedication behind every call-out.
The visit wasn’t just educational — it was also a chance to reflect on the values of community service and helping others. Many of the young people left inspired, talking about future careers in medicine, aviation, or emergency response.
We’re incredibly grateful to the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance team for their time, enthusiasm, and for making the visit so memorable. It’s experiences like these that help shape confident, compassionate young people ready to make a difference.
