This July, the 2nd Braintree and Bocking Air Scout Group — including Beavers, Cubs, and Air Scouts — joined Scout groups from across the district for a weekend of adventure, discovery, and unforgettable memories at Skreens Park Activity Centre.
For many of our young members, this was their first time camping away from home — and they absolutely thrived.
What Made This Camp So Special?
Set in the beautiful Essex countryside, the Braintree District Camp offered a safe, exciting environment where children could explore, learn, and grow. With a programme packed full of activities, there was something for everyone:
- 🧗 Climbing and High Ropes to build confidence and resilience
- 🏹 Archery and Target Sports to develop focus and coordination
- 🔥 Bushcraft and Survival Skills to spark curiosity and independence
- 🎨 Crafts, 🎈 Inflatables, and team games to encourage creativity and collaboration
Whether it was singing songs around the campfire or cheering each other on during challenges, the weekend was full of moments that helped our young people grow — socially, emotionally, and personally.
What the Children Had to Say
Hearing directly from the Beavers and Cubs shows just how much the experience meant to them:
🐾 Hector (Beaver, age 7): “I loved the bouncy castle and the climbing! I want to come back next year!”
🐾 Ivy (Cub, age 9): “I climbed really high and wasn’t scared at all. It was the best camp ever!”
🐾 Oscar (Air Scout, age 11): “Archery was awesome! I hit the target and got a bullseye!”
These quotes reflect the joy, pride, and sense of achievement that filled the camp.
A Message from the Team
Group Lead Volunteer Dan / Blackbird shared:
“It was fantastic to see our Beavers, Cubs, and Air Scouts all enjoying the camp together. The energy, teamwork, and smiles throughout the weekend were a real testament to what Scouting is all about.”
